You can do some restoration work if the cracks bother you, it is not a hard fix. When an antique piece like this becomes available, we do not restore it because some buyers feel that restoration would compromise the integrity of this piece. I don't believe restoration would really hurt the value, so don't feel bad if you choose to do it. According to Antiques Roadshow restoration to antique items under $5000 actually increases the value. less
