Amber with Inclusions
Eocene
Baltic Region
Russia
This exceptional specimen of fossilized conifer tree resin known as Amber may be small in size but includes a most dramatic scene preserved forever inside the 44 million year old example of succinite. This elongated spear-shaped cabochon of Baltic Amber boasts a classic warm golden-yellow coloration, richly detailed with numerous insect inclusions in natural suspension, including a well defined extinct winged insect inclusion and natural internal fractures add that a complexity to this decorative piece of history. The translucent form weighs 3 grams, but measures well over a sizable 2 inches (5 cm) in length from end to end.
Dating to the Eocene Epoch, the last time these insects freely roamed the earth was during the geological epoch that lasted from about 56 to 33.9 million years ago.
A superb example, this offering is vibrant, exceptional, and displays beautifully.
