The Avant Garde lithograph print poster is published by the famous Galleria Del Cavallino, printed in Italy in 1970 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition at the Venice gallery of the artworks of the artist Man Ray.
Man Ray ( 1890 - 1976 ) born Emmanuel Radnitzky was an American visual artist of a Russian Jewish background who spent most of his career in Paris. He was a contributor to the Dada and Surrealist movements. He produced major works in a variety of media, and considered himself a painter above all.
Best known for his photography, he was a renowned pioneering fashion and portrait photographer. Significant members of the art world, including Pablo Picasso, James Joyce, Gertrude Stein, Jean Cocteau, Salvador Dali, and Peggy Guggenheim all posed for his camera.
Ray was responsible for several important technical innovations in Modern Art, filmmaking, and photography. His explorations of film, painting, sculpture, collage, assemblage, and prototypes of what would eventually be called Performance Art and Conceptual Art are lasting contributions to the Modern Art world. Artworks by Man Ray are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The Galleria Del Cavallino was a historic Italian art gallery founded in Venice in 1942 by Carlo Cardazzo. His groundbreaking activity in the art world saw exhibitions of the edge of Italian artistic Avant Garde of The Twentieth Century, and after World War II his gallery brought the leasing European Modern artists censored by fascism to Italy. In later decades the gallery exhibited works of many influential and important artists including Jim Dine, Max Bill, David Hockney, and Marina Abromovic among others.
