All the moldings are complete and have had no repairs. It has recently been re-polished with new French polish. This mahogany table/ladder does have mahogany veneer on the legs and the one solid piece of tabletop. Light scratches and nicks due to the antiqueness. The right front foot of the table has slight warping and an old repair. The original casters roll smoothly, however, when moving the table, make sure to lift the table and not roll it due to the delicateness of the legs. The legs on the table are sturdy and not loose, however, since they are long and thin, this makes them more delicate. The locks/latches and hinges work smoothly. The right sliding latch that locks the ladder into place has an old repair and is missing a piece of the brass frame but works smoothly. The ladder is in good condition, however, since it is old, it cannot withhold so much weight and we suggest using the ladder as an exhibition piece when it is open or as a desk when it is closed. There is also an old repair on the wooden area where the ladder rests that was caused by not being pulled out correctly. When opening and closing this metamorphic table, please make sure to follow the instructions on how to open and close it. Overall, in good condition and a wonderful collection piece. Ships in one complete piece. less

Circa 1820 George III mahogany metamorphic library table with oak step ladder. This rare beauty is a type of dual-use metamorphic furniture consisting of a library table that transform into a step ladder. This table can still be used as a library table/desk. The library table has dummy drawers design on each side with beautiful brass handles. However, when it is transformed into a library ladder it is best for display and not for daily use. As this is an old piece, the ladder cannot withhold so much weight and if not used properly can be very fragile. However, this is a great collector's piece and would look beautifully displayed in someone's personal library.
How to open:
Feel the bottom of the ends of the table. On one end, you should feel two latches.
Move the latch inwards. This unlocks the table.
Lift the top of the table with both hands carefully.
Once the tabletop is raised all the way (vertically), find the two latches on the hand railings of the ladder.
Pull each latch downwards carefully to lock the railings in place so the ladder can be displayed.
Carefully pull out the ladder.
How to close:
Fold in the ladder carefully.
Once the ladder is folded in. Pull each latch upwards carefully. This unlocks the table to be able to fold back into a table.
Fold the hand railings in carefully, which brings down the tabletop.
Once the tabletop is brought back down in place, make sure to move the two latches outwards, locking the table in place.
Reminder, this metamorphic library table is old and delicate. Has original casters that roll smoothly, however, when moving the table make sure to lift the table and not roll due to the delicate legs.
Height when opened: 78.5 in
Knee clearance: 24.5 in
Weighs approximately: 100 lbs less
