The base is carved wood and the hide top is sewn on by hand using leather strands. The drum sticks are carved wood and are attached to the drum with the same leather strands. Nagaland is a mountainous state in northeast India and is home to diverse indigenous tribes that have festivals and markets celebrating the culture of the individual tribes.
The Nagaland State Museum exhibits, among other things, a ceremonial drum such as this one and other traditional Naga cultural artifacts. See less
