Makes it unusable and unsafe for use. There's a couple reasons for that - they store fluids in the cracks and can actually cause food poisoning if food gets in there. There's also a few times it's OK. There's are glazes that are actually made specifically to crackle in a way that looks like crazing. Kind of like crackle paint- only with melted glass. That's what's going on here. How do I know? Because if you get something with crazing wet, the water seeps into the cracks and darkens it. No darkening- no crazing. And this darling mid century Scandinavian style pitcher is absolutely loaded with intricately interconnected crackles. Crackles that are drop dead gorgeous.
