About the Poster: Branding, called "Schutzmarken" in German, was a focus of many early Art Deco artists and graphic designers, These small tip-on posters include packing ideas for cigarettes and logo ideas for hotels and restaurants.
They were included in a 1927 book edited by Dr. Walter Schubert Titled "Die Deutsche Werbe Graphik," published in Berlin by Francken and Lang. It is the only edition of this important study of a great era of German graphic design featuring posters, packaging, advertising, book illustrations, programs for theater, and sports. Illustrated mostly with tipped-in color plates of work by Bernhard, Hohlwein, Klinger, Preetorius, Gipkens, Kleukens, Cissarz, Pechstein and many others, this book and the illustrations contained within it are considered highly collectable and very, very rare.
About Haus Bergmann Cigarettes: Although these designs were made in the late 1920's, HB cigarettes were first brought on the general market in 1955 in West Germany. The brand was first advertised with the slogan "Eine Filterzigarette, die schmeckt" ("A filter cigarette that tastes good"). The HB cigarettes spread quickly in the German market thanks also to their simple design, on which the brand still build, as young and dynamic and thus attractive to young people.
Unusual, in very good condition and perfect for a graphic designer or a student of branding history.
