Small chairs and stools, for me, have always been somewhat of an accessory piece around our home; you can never have too many. Small or large, in and out of doors, you can move it around from room-to-room, space-to-space, to meet the need of the moment, whether it been seating or décor. The look-and-feel of this cutie is the same as when I acquired it. Its rustic and charming naturally aged patina, developed over years of use, is ready to be placed into service immediately, lovely, isn’t it? The sleek profile is quite unique in that the tapered bow back has no center splat only three slender ring turned spool spindles. Constructed from solid mahogany wood using mortise and tenon joinery with no screws or nails. The seat is contoured and sits on ring turned spool legs; ring turned spool double H-cross stretcher provides strength and stability. It measures 36” x 18” x 17½” H/W/D; seat to floor height 17½”; seat 15” x 16½” W/D; seat thickness ¾”; tapered back 19” high; width varies from top to bottom at 10” to 13½”; weight approximately 12 to 15 lbs. In excellent structural condition. Mortise and tenon joinery. Age appropriate naturally aged wear to the lacquer finish which has created the time worn patina seen in the photos. A few scratches and scuffs consistent with age and use. I have lightly waxed it over the years with a beeswax product which has kept the wood supple. There is an underside stenciled model number and wood type but no makers name. We believe this cutie was made sometime between 1900 to 1910 in the United States, as this style of chair was quite popular during this time period. With its petite footprint, this cutie will work perfectly in any bedroom, closet, bathroom/vanity area or even a nursery, as an extra seating option or an eye-catching accent in an entryway or nook.
