Super comfy swivel chair and ottoman covered in supple tan leather and broken in just right by its previous owner! Sink into this Danish Modern lounge chair attributed to Svens Skipper and you won't want to get up until you're forced to!
SVEND SKIPPER was born in Svendborg, Denmark, in 1919. Skipper began his design career after World War II when he was apprenticed as a furniture upholsterer in 1948. He began working for the furniture company Carl Hansen & Son in 1950, where he designed some of its most iconic pieces. In 1955 he bought a small furniture store in Durup and called it “Svends Möbler”. A year later, he made his first chair “No. 91”, popularly named the Skipper Bamse chair, which won the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1957. Skipper was known for his skilful use of wood, as well as for his ability to create furniture that was both functional and elegant. He was greatly influenced by the work of designers such as Arne Jacobsen and Finn Juhl. Over the years, Skipper also worked for other Danish furniture companies, including Fritz Hansen and Thorald Madsen, where he continued to produce innovative and aesthetically pleasing designs. He created many outstanding pieces of furniture for Carl Hansen & Son, including armchairs, sofas, and coffee tables. In 1959, he began to build a private home and a factory on Vinkelvej. In the following years, several extensions were made so that the production area was up to approx. 4,500 m2 before production moved to Sweden in 2015. Today, Svend Skipper's furniture is highly prized by collectors and design enthusiasts worldwide for its timeless elegance and exceptional quality.
