I'm not sure what type of wood this is, but it has warm rich hues. I believe the deeper holes were part of the original carving as RD Lewis often incorporated worm holes or natural formations into his work. The more topical dents, I assume, are from use but the semicircular looking ones are actually tiny carvings used to accentuate the curvature of the feathers.There are the large carvings for the feathers- then also smaller accentuation. Realistic head and head carving and RD Lewis's signature beak hook is present and visible. You can see upper beak hooks or notches on many of his other signed wood duck carvings.

The condition is very good. The whole piece is in solid shape and the eyes are in good shape as well. There are no splits, breaks or repairs.

Showing measurements via camera and pictures can always be tricky due to the optical illusion caused by distance, so my one picture shows the length at 25" but it is actually 21" long. I was standing while taking the picture,
