Rare, elegant and sophisticated, this very fine quality vintage table by the acclaimed Danish royal cabinet makers furniture company, C. B. Hansens Etablissement, founded in 1838 by Christopher Bagnæs Hansen. Circa 1960s
This exceptional example was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in the mid-20th century, exquisitely handcrafted, extensively inlaid with various exotic woods, including satinwood, kingwood, mahogany and ebony, having a serpentine shaped top, with corresponding contrasting ebonized string banding, framing central floral marquetry-work of finely detailed blossoming flowers, vines and leaves, eloquent cross-banding, over a delicately decorated gracefully curved shaped apron, elegantly rising on smooth cabriole legs, garnished with intricately detailed gilded bronze ormolu mounts, terminating on gilt bronze sabots. Signed, retaining original paper label.
The hand craftsmanship of this intricate marquetry design and the finishing techniques are done with outstanding precision by highly skilled artisans. The dual personality of this table is beautifully combined: traditional antique Louis XV meets modern clean lines, while reflecting philosophy of challenging the past through the future.
Christopher Bagnæs Hansen (1806-1868) was a Danish court furniture maker. In 1830 Hansen established C. B. Hansens Etablissement and in 1838 he was licensed to "manufacture and sell veneer and intarsia furniture of fine imported as well as local types of wood". His business prospered to a degree that in 1943 enabled him to purchase the imposing Erichsen Mansion at Kongens Nytorv.
