Offered is a Fine Art Photography book, "The Art of Caring: A Look at Life Through Photography" Edited by Cynthia Goodman. Produced in conjunction with an exhibit in 2009 at the New Orleans Museum of Art. Dust jacket, cloth cover, hardcover.
Synopsis:
The photographs reflect our times: an aging population; new family norms; environmental awareness; human rights issues; civil and military preparedness; acceptance of diversity. a weakening global economy. Divided into seven themes: Children &Family, Love, Wellness, Caregiving &Healing, Aging, Disaster, and Remembering. The works are by great documentary and fine art photographers including Arbus, Callahan, Eisenstaedt, Parks, Salgado, Smith, Meyerowitz, Orimoto, and by younger photographers. A special selection of photographs by Annie Leibovitz forms a preface.
The photographs provide a compelling visual chronicle of how key life events are celebrated and honored, as well as how pivotal life decisions are made by different world cultures. The Art of Caring: A Look at Life Through Photography is divided into seven thematic components: Children and Family, Love, Wellness, Caregiving and Healing, Aging, Disaster, and Remembering. Many of the works were created by some of the greatest documentary and fine art photographers of the last sixty years including Diane Arbus, Harry Callahan, Alfred Eisenstaedt, Nan Goldin, Mary Ellen Mark, Gordon Parks, Sebastiao Salgado, W. Eugene Smith, Sally Mann, Joel Meyerowitz, Nicholas Nixon, and Tatsumi Orimoto, while others were taken by a number of younger photographers whose work is gaining increasing crictical attention, including Elinor Carucci, Misty Keasler, Ryan McGinley, WalterMartin, Palomo Munoz, and Chen Qiulin. A special selection of photographs by Annie Leibovitz, chosen in collaboraion with the artist, forms a visual introduction to the exhibition themes. The photographs reflect aspects of our changing times: an aging population; new family norms; environmental awareness; human rights issues; civil and military preparedness; acceptance of diversity; a weakening global economy.
