This 1957 oil on canvas Abstract Expressionist figure entitled “Sketch of Carla at Age 12” is by Bay Area artist and teacher Jacquelinne White (1919-2008). Carla, I assume, is the artist’s daughter. The painting is signed and dated in the upper left and titled on reverse. It is in very good condition.

White was a musician who transitioned into painting, earning her BFA and MFA in the late 1950s-early 1960s. She exhibited at the Legion of Honor in 1961 and in a group show with John Cage and Kenneth Rexroth. White illustrated two children’s books in the 1990s and lived in Bolinas, CA. less
