Description: Offered is an impressive and finely carved … more Title: 19th Century Chinese Jade Carving, Recumbent Horse and Stand, Qing Period.
Description: Offered is an impressive and finely carved jade horse in a recumbent position, head raised, with all four legs tucked underneath the body. The mane falls mostly on one side of the neck behind the forward-pricked ears, and the long tail is flicked over the haunch. The details of the mane are well incised and the muscular body and head are naturalistically and sympathetically modelled. The softly polished stone is of a rich celadon, striated with extensive pale olive and white, featuring areas of rust inclusions, carved zitan stand.
Measures: 10.5 L x 4 W x 6.5 H (7.5 H on stand) inches.
Condition notes: Good; minor repair of an ear and slight loss, a surface natural inclusion on the central surface of the flank (see images), otherwise fine. A beautiful piece. less
