Pair of George Jones Majolica Cornucopia Vases, English, circa 1875, each modeled as a white wicker ground cornucopia, with trailing green glazed leafy vines and simulated mossy twig supports, tied together with a turquoise glazed ribbon and bow, the interiors glazed in turquoise blue. Both vases are in excellent antique condition, with no damage or restoration (see complete condition report below). George Jones pattern number '3352' painted in black to reserve on bottoms, which corresponds to 'White Cornucopia Vase, side support' in the George Jones Majolica Pattern Numbers Book from the Wedgwood Archives (see footnote). For over 28 years we have been among the nation's preeminent specialists in fine antique majolica.
Despite considerable research, we can find no other known examples of this pattern. We have consulted with other majolica specialist dealers both here in the US and in England; none have ever seen it, including the most experienced and knowledgeable majolica specialist anywhere, Michael Strawser of Majolica Auctions and founder of The Majolica International Society.
Measures: 5" D x 5" W x 6.25" H.
