A very fine set of 4 antique chromolithographic prints from "Oriental Ceramic Art" by Louis Prang, published 1897. Limited Edition of 500. Text and notes by Dr. Stephen Bushell.
Prominent rare book dealer William Reese called this "[Prang's] finest hour, and perhaps the greatest tour de force in chromolithography ever executed. Each plate required from twenty to forty-four stones to print, a staggering technical feat." Originally published in 1897 and said to be limited to far fewer than its approved edition of 500, the four volume work describes the collection of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean ceramics collected by Baltimore engineer, railroad tycoon, and art collector William T. Walters. Prang considered this work to be his "monument," and subsequently retired from the printing business.
Presented here are 4 original plates, previously framed, from the 116 chromolithographs contained in the work. Two of the plate descriptions survive.

Fair antique condition. At least one print showing water damage. Prior framing remnants to each plate. Wear to the black edge of the teapot plate as shown. Bubbling to the paper.
