The butcher block is … Read more Originally property of a French boucherie, this double butcher block table dates to circa the 1920s. The butcher block is well-constructed with iron brackets and visible circular bolts, allowing the table to preserve functionality after decades of use that have given the chopping surface character-defining undulations. A short wall rises above the chopping surface and is adorned with a thick circular iron medallion of a woman. On each side of the medallion is a decorative metal mount, slightly offset above two slots designed to store knives when not in use. The thick façade of the chopping surface also has an iron embellishment consisting of a raised rosette surrounded by a circle set within a pierced foliate margent. A pair of drawers have been carved into the apron below, each with a round iron pull attached by thick, bulbous mounts that have developed a touch of verdigris. Six fluted legs with block feet support the robust table, allowing it to be used functionally as a kitchen island or prep station. See less
