Made of terracotta covered with thick layer of gilt copper
Designed after the antique, featuring a busy classical scene with many figures, a deer and a boar, it is based on a possibly well known ancient Greek or Roman original
Marked at the bottom with a stamp surrounded by a laurel wreath "Manifattura di Signa" with number 1132 G
The ceramic factory in Signa, Florence was created in 1895. Aiming in perfect resembles to the originals, the factory specialized in intricate reproductions of sculptural and decorative masterpieces from all eras made from Arno mud, finished with variety of patinas and metal overlays. Their production became very popular and in high demand during the early 1900's, especially after the medal won at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900.
Because of the high quality of work and the faithful rendition to the original masterpieces, the artifacts made by the "Manifattura" found their places in major museums around the world (The Met & the V&A, among others) for the artistic value of their own.
