My mom collected Carnival Glass and this is one piece from her Northwood collection. Iridescently gorgeous, this ruffled bowl’s pattern is "Strawberry” by Northwood, circa 1910. Its underside is a basketweave motif with iridized hues of pale bronze and champagne over a green base, which produces a glimmering translucent rainbow of color when light reflects on and through it (see photos). The collar base is unmarked, however, not all Northwood patterns carry the mark and in some patterns that do carry the mark, not all pieces may have it. This beauty measures 8¼“ x 2” D/H; weight 1 lb. 4 oz.; base color is green; medium is pressed glass. The iridized finish is in pristine condition, luminous and striking. There are random and indiscernible inclusions that are inherent in any glassware, original to the manufacturer as a result of manufacturing process used at the time. The bottom of the base has two tiny missing slivers, with no ill effect and which are indiscernible. Looking almost like iridescent art glass, its elegance and splendor will complement any modern space, whether on a tabletop or propped up on a plate holder, not included.
Thanks for looking!
Carnival Glass Colors
Carnival was made in a bewildering variety of colors, more than 50 have been identified. In addition, there was very little quality control in the early days, so a batch of glass could vary considerably. Carnival glass colors definitions are based on the color of the glass, with the exception of marigold, clambroth, white and some smoke, which are clear glass. less
