What began as a secular style that adorned the homes of Parisian aristocracy spread to church interiors throughout Europe including Portugal. In the 19th century, Europe saw the revival of the Rococo style in a variety of artistic modes including decorative objects. This pair of bronze Portuguese candelabras is a stunning example of nineteenth century Rococo Revival. The silvered bronze has significant wear and a warm hue with glints of the remaining silver. The effect is more bronze than silver (refer to photographs). Each candelabra has four ornate arms with a center stem, accommodating a total of six candles. The base of each has four curved feet. They are in solid sturdy condition. See less
