Jack Bush ( 1909 - 1977 ) is a Canadian born Abstract Expressionist artist. His paintings are associated with The Color Field Movement and Post-Painterly Abstraction. Influenced by the Abstract Expressionist artists of The New York Movement including Helen Frankenthaler and Morris Louis, Bush encapsulated joyful yet emotional feelings in his vibrant paintings. The artworks are highly regarded at the forefront of Canadian Modernist Art. The works are held in the permanent collections of many prestigious museums including The National Gallery of Canada, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, The Tate Gallery London, The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, among many others.
This outstanding book on the life and art of Jack Bush is the first major publication on the artist. Ninety-six color plates and numerous black and white illustrations document Bush's achievement. The text bring together the insights of an international group of critics, art historians and museum curators, interviews with Bush's friends and colleagues, and an unpublished interview with Bush, made shortly before his death in 1977. It is a beautiful volume that claims Bush's place not only as a Canadian master but as one of the most original and inventive colorists in Modern Art history.
The rare out of print 1st American edition hardcover art book measures 10 1/2" W X 12 3/4" H X 1" D, with 218 pages. It features 165 offset lithograph print illustrations, including 96 full-color plates, an artist chronology, bibliography, and illustrations list.
