This Andy Warhol Estate very rare vintage 1999 Pop Art silkscreen print custom framed monumental extra large museum poster " Gold Marilyn Monroe " 1962, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Pop Art poster print is published by The Museum of Modern Art, New York with the licensed authorized rights of The Estate and Foundation of Andy Warhol, printed in France in 1999 in an unnumbered limited edition. Andy Warhol ( 1928 - 1987 ) is one of the singularly most well known Contemporary artists of all time. His imagery is recognized worldwide. His infamous life, art works, and creative endeavors are like no other artist. He is credited as the very first artist to use common everyday objects and view them in a completely different way while paying homage to their role in our society. Glorifying the common as the beautiful. His technique utilizing a silkscreen method combined with hand finishing in a signature palette of vibrant color hues make the work stand on its own and loved by millions.
Shortly after her tragic death in 1962, Warhol created an acclaimed series of paintings paying tribute to the legendary Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe. " Gold Marilyn Monroe " is one of his first photo-silkscreened canvases and one of his earliest celebrity paintings. He hand painted the large canvas in metallic gold paint and then delicately silkscreened Monroe's face, cropped from a publicity still for the 1953 film noir Niagara, at the center.
The meticulous arrangement of elements resulted in a masterpiece composition. With this updated version of a grand Byzantine icon creating a contemplative aura, Warhol canonized and elevated Monroe to an almost mythical status - as a goddess of popular culture.
The artwork " Gold Marilyn Monroe " was the centerpiece of Warhol's first exhibition of paintings in New York City, at The Stable Gallery in 1962. The show sold out, and Warhol achieved star status in the art world, something he had long been desiring.
The rare out of print framed extra large format Pop Art poster print measures 42" W X 67" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern brushed matte finish black metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and very light minor wear. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price.
