A traditional Mexican blanket textile, made with virgin wool in the mountainous, pine tree-filled region of Central Mexico. Using only the highest quality softest untreated wool in soft shades of cream, taupe and grey. The sheep are herded in the open mountain ranges, in the traditional manner, with shepherd dogs and walk long distances every day. The wool from these sheep is then sold to the family run factory which weaves the blankets on vintage Swiss power shuttle looms from the 1930's. This textile is used in Mexico traditionally as a 'sarape' or shawl in the colder mountainous regions and is also a traditional garment also used by 'vaqueros' or cowboys to shied them from the cold when riding at night.
Mexchic creates objects with integrity, hovering in the realm of conceptual and artistic, designed in-house then hand-made by only the most talented Mexican artisans, using centuries old techniques in limited editions. Collectable works seeped in Mexican tradition while also contemporary and personal.
