This charming antique tureen from Atterbury & Co. features a beautifully detailed boar's head design with red glass eyes. Made of white milk glass, the tureen is inscribed with the patent date "May 29, 1888" on the underside of both the lid and the bowl.
Founded in 1860 in Pittsburgh, PA, Atterbury & Co. was renowned for its high-quality milk glass. Early pieces like this one featured patent dates, and the company became famous for its whimsical covered dishes in the shape of animals. The "Boar's Head" design was introduced in 1888, following earlier designs like the "Rabbit" (1886) and "Duck" (1887).
