Born in Italy in the first half of the 20th century, featuring high quality craftsmanship and solid wood construction, hand-crafted and carved walnut, having a rectangular top with molded edge and dentil trim, over conforming case fitted with seven drawers, each with ornate scrolling foliate marquetry drawer-fronts, above stepped and shaped molding base, rising on sturdy bracket feet.
A semainier is a tall, sometimes narrow, chest of drawers / bedroom commode, sometimes with five but typically with seven stacked drawers, intended for storing one week's supply of clothing, lingerie, shirts, etc.., usually dictated by its size. This example is one of the larger sizes, its warm, elegant yet masculine, and functional, with clean lines, simple form, and rich marquetry detail, it's sure to be a welcome addition to any home!
