Philippe Starck, world famous creator with multifaceted inventiveness, is always focused on the essential, his vision: that creation, whatever form it takes, must improve the lives of as many people as possible. This philosophy has made him one of the pioneers and central figures of the concept of democratic design.
The Juicy Salif lemon squeezer was designed by Philippe Starck for Alessi in the 1990s. It is made from cast aluminium with injection moulded polypropylene feet. The sculptural squeezer's shape is based on that of a squid with a streamlined body and three legs, and it has become a design icon. Critics have suggested the juicer emphasizes form over function as it does not perform well in practice, but Starck has publicly stated that his citrus reamer was "not meant to squeeze lemons" but "to start conversations". less
