Description: Very old gold gilded wood wall mirror with an elaborately carved frame of rosettes, scrolls, and leafs, topped with a … more Very old gold gilded wood wall mirror with an elaborately carved frame of rosettes, scrolls, and leafs, topped with a beautiful large scallop shell crest. The carvings on the shell crest are so well done. The shape of the mirror is an unusual shield form with original mirror glass intact. Wood carvings and gesso areas on the wood frame show desirable minor losses and age shrinkage fissures, and chippiness to the finish that reveals a turquoise blue underneath the gold, as well as the natural wood in spots. The mirror itself has some faint spots characteristic of its age and a few faint scratches near the frame edge, see detail pictures.

This is a beautiful Old World piece with loads of antique character, extending even to the remnant of wallpaper added to the backer at some later point in time. We've chosen to preserve this with some newer tape because of the extra touch of charm the wallpaper floral adds to the piece. Attached wire for hanging.
