This is a Great Looking & Quite Unusual Antique American Primitive Stoneware Storage Crock - Jar. Circa Approx. 1830s. It is Rendered in the Early American "Ovoid" Shape - Form with Oversize Handles - "Ears". The Classic Salt Glaze Body is Decorated on the Back Side with the Number "2" Denoting its Two Gallon Storage Capacity Size. The Front is Also Decorated with a Wonderful Large Size Hand Decorated Blue Stylized Tulip Flower with Stem Design. It Also has Blue Decorated Features - Accents at the Handles. The Interior is done in a Dark Caramel Brown Color. These Types of Jars were Typically Used to Store and Preserve Many Types of Liquids and Other Foods. It has No Maker Mark. Based on the Style I Believe that it was Made in the New England Region. It is in All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It has a Very Old "Freeze Crack" on the Front to the Right Between the Flower and the Handle ( See Listing Photographs ). These Types of Cracks Typically Occurred as a Result of the Contents ( Liquids Etc ) Freezing and Expanding in Cold Basements - Cellars - Barns Etc. These Types of American Stoneware Items we Completely Hand Made out of Indigenous Clay on a Potters Wheel from Start to Finish and Therefore No 2 are Absolutely Identical.
