The chairs are probably late 19th … Read more Italian Renaissance style carved wooden Savanarola chairs, named for the 15th Century Dominican friar. The chairs are probably late 19th century, and were repaired and strengthened with iron bands under the seats sometime in the early 20th century. See photos. These chairs do not fold up, as some Savanarola and Dante chairs do. No manufacturer's markings. When I bought them in Germany in 1980, I was told they were from Italy "or maybe France". They had leather seat cushions filled with straw and horsehair, which was so deteriorated that I removed them. Now they are comfortable with seat pillows, not included. See less
