This set of two Alphonso T. Toran very rare vintage Early 1950's Art Deco style " Pink Flamingos " framed one of a kind hand signed Realist oil paintings is and incredibly special and unique set to add to your collection.
The Mid Century Modern original vintage paintings are created in The Early 1950's by the artist Alphonso T. Toran. The oil paintings on masonite board panels feature beautiful Art Deco style images of two pink flamingos poised in a lush lagoon setting in a gorgeous multicolor vintage palette. Both paintings are hand signed " A.T. Toran copyright ", in the lower bottom corner front.
This is a rare opportunity for true Alphonso Toran, Art Deco, and Realism fans and collectors, as these coveted image captivating and elegant small scale one of a kind paintings are very scarce to find.
Alphonso T. Toran ( 1896 - 1965 ) the Naples Italy born acclaimed American artist, designer, educator, and writer is known for his floral and fruit still compositions, and exotic bird image Realist easel and mural paintings. He was formally trained at The Institute of Arts, University of Florence Italy. He emigrated to this country in 1914 to Massachusetts, where he began painting miniatures on watches and clocks for The Waltham Watch Company.
Later moving to New York Coiy, Toran was director of The Creative Studios of Art & Decoration, painting murals for the prestigious Hotel's Delmonico, Pierre, New Yorker, and Waldorf-Astoria, The Texaco and Chrysler buildings, and for the private homes of some of the most esteemed art collectors including Elizabeth Arden's, The Guggenheim's, and The Vanderbilt home on Park Avenue.
In 1950 he began spending the winter seasons in Florida, where he maintained a studio and concentrated on miniature paintings, exhibiting twice annually in New York's Greenwich Village. Throughout his career, Toran received numerous awards for his artistic contributions in Italy, France, and The United States.
The vintage Art Deco framed original paintings each measure 10 5/8" W X 3/4" D. There is a very slight difference in the height size of each of the 2 framed paintings, one measuring 12 5/8" H, the other is 12 1/2" H. Respectively the painting panels inside the frames each measure 8" W X 10" H, and 7 7/8" W X 9 7/8" H.
They are period custom framed in their original vintage Neoclassical style cream painted wood with intended subtle antiqued finish, parcel gilt gold-tone carved border relief detailed frame moldings, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
Each painting is stamped on the reverse back side " Reproduction Rights Reserved by the Artist A.T. Toran " on both of the masonite board painting panels, and the frame moldings.
The set of 2 are in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and some light to moderate visible wear and patina to the frame moldings. There are a few small scratches on one of the paintings. Please see photos for condition reference. They are now being offered here for an excellent price. less
