This Helen Frankenthaler very rare vintage 1965 Mid Century Modernist lithograph print Abstract Expressionist exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Modernist exhibition poster print is published by the famous Andre Emmerich Gallery New York City, printed in 1965 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the exhibition. It features an untitled Abstract Expressionist artwork image by artist Helen Frankenthaler.
This is a rare opportunity for true Frankenthaler, Mid Century Modernism, and Abstract Expressionism fans and collectors as this coveted image exhibition poster print is long out of print and very scarce to find.
This particular exhibition poster was held in the archive collection of The Akron Art Museum in Ohio for many decades since 1965. The museum was the named The Akron Art Institute. The poster was folded as-issued by the gallery, addressed and sent to the museum director in 1965. The original mailing label, 3 cent New York Liberty postage stamp, and pencil hand written museum archive notes are all present on the reverse back side.
Helen Frankenthaler ( 1928 - 2011 ) is an American Abstract Expressionist painter of a liberal Jewish background, and is a major contributor to the history of Postwar Modernist Painting. She exhibited her work for over six decades, spanning several generations of Abstract painters while continuing to produce vital and ever change new art works.
Her work has been the subject of several retrospective exhibitions including The Museum of Modern Art New York, The Whitney Museum, The Jewish Museum, and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She has been exhibited worldwide since the 1950's, and was awarded The National Medal of the Arts in 2001. Artworks by Frankenthaler are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The rare out of print Mid Century Modernist exhibition poster print measures 22" W X 27 7/8" H. It is printed on smooth finish paper stock with strong ink colors in a matte finish.
It is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, light to moderate signs of handling, and some light to moderate visible wear. There are fold as-issued present.
