Add authentic antique character and charm, sophisticated cultural interest, elegant warmth and rich historical depth with this graceful South Indian patinated cast brass ritual oil lamp.
This unique religious object, known as Changalvetta, was used for Hindu prayer (puja) rituals.
Having an elongated sculptural form, with central oil reservoir, a shallow yoni shaped burner at one end, and raised finial at the other end, bronze ladle spoon attached by chain, rising on flared pedestal circular foot. The top surface is decorated with incised geometric and floral motifs and beautifully aged original patina over the whole. Similar to a votive, candlestick or candle holder, this functional work of art is sure to standout! India, 19th century or earlier
