What I mean is this, most often a piece of good art is always done by an artist and not mass produced in a workshop. This small wood sculpture is carved by an unknown artist. The attention to details is unsurpassed from the distinctive facial features, the strands of hair that ended up in a braided top knot, to the designs on his cape. What is so touching is how lovingly the man held his cat, and how the feline rested so comfortably on his lap. The cape drapes naturally over his shoulders and how his pants are rolled up over the knees are so well illustrated. I withheld this piece of sculpture from my inventory for years for I genuinely love it. less
