Ironstone china is a glaze-covered earthenware that was first patented by Charles James Mason in 1813 and other manufacturers followed suit. At one point, there were almost 200 makers of ironstone china and they made everything from plates and bowls to tureens, covered casseroles, pitchers, gravy boats and even chamber pots. The sugar bowl measures 4¼” x 3” D/H, capacity 10 oz. The slightly angled creamer’s diameter is 6”, from spout tip to handle and 3” high; it too holds 10 oz. Together the pair weigh 1 lb. 4 oz.; made in the USA. Color is rich and “chocolatey” with “lava” design striations (brown, beige, tan, cream) in a highly glazed finish, gorgeous! This duo is in pristine condition with no use wear; look like new.
