An antique English vase from the Victorian era produced between 1880 and 1884 at Commondale Pottery. The glazed terra cotta vessel is hand decorated with a warm, glossy glaze in shades of caramel and butterscotch brown. Very good condition, measuring 5.38 in. height with COMMONDALE POTTERY impressed in a circular stamp on the base alongside handwritten O583A.
Commondale Pottery was a short-lived venture undertaken by the Commondale Brick, Pipe and Pottery Company Ltd. in the village of Commondale of North Yorkshire, England. In 1880, they launched a limited line of domestic and art pottery created from red and buff terracotta but brought this effort to an end by 1884. Examples of this rare production are in the collections of several English art institutions, including the British Museum. less
