The bases of the lamps are made of cast iron; all the other iron hardware is hand-wrought. The previous owner did a light spray of black over the bases, which I find attractive, as they also removed the paint on the high spots, giving the bases good definition. The shafts appear to be In original condition. All the metalwork is top quality.

The shades are simply breath-taking! Hand-blown, over a hundred years old, and in excellent original condition, with the exception that one has one small chip on one of the “petals;” on the other shade, one tip of one petal has been slightly chipped. It’s been carefully ground down and is smooth and very hard to notice even up close. It’s closest to the shaft of the lamp on the left (in the second photo, showing one lamp), so you can see how unnoticeable it is.

Rewired and fitted with American candelabra sockets, each lamp is capable of hosting a sixty watt bulb. These opalescent shades definitely look best when a clear bulb is used; I’ll send along two new 40-watt clear bulbs with the lamps.

On either end of a large buffet, or other large piece of furniture, or a mantle, or anywhere a pair would serve, these will gloriously enliven your environment.

The lamps stand 12 inches high. The bases are about six by a little less than 5 wide, and front to back the lamps (including the shades) measure about 7 inches. See less
