Dated to the early 20th-century, this three-drawer table began its life in China's Gansu province as a versatile surface in a provincial home, used for general household storage and as a domestic altar for ancestor worship. Crafted of poplar, the table has a straightforward design defined by its flat, floating-panel top, straight square legs, and absence of decorative carved elements. It appears that at different moments in its life, the table was lacquered with vibrant reds, yellows, and blacks. Today, these various colors play off each other beautifully, united by a well-worn finish that only time can achieve. Textured by its past lives, this table adds bright character to modern interiors as a rustic hallway console or sofa table.
