It can be repaired easily with some new iron nails, it seems the only issue with the lock bar is the missing nails that have fallen out over time leaving the top iron decal quite loose. Wooden wheels on the bottom structure are strong and reliable, but do not roll effortlessly, you won't have to worry about it rolling from your desired location. Useful for rearranging but not meant for far distances. Top panel has some discoloration seemingly from water rings and the wood separating a small amount near the back (included in photos). Natural wear and tear on edges and top face. Iron hinges have minimal rusting, nothing significant. Back panel has crack/separation down the middle, purely cosmetic, does not affect the structure. Great condition for its age. less

Wonderfully unique Japanese Edo period karuma tansu chest. This chest is made out of elm and chestnut with intricate and original hand wrought iron lock plates and handles. These types of chests were made to be lightweight and easily portable due to the large amount of house fires that occurred in Japan during the 19th century. Two full length drawers across the top half of the chest, original locking bar is included but has some damage, so it cannot actually be used to lock. It can be repaired easily with some new iron nails, it seems the only issue with the lock bar is the missing nails that have fallen out over time leaving the top iron decal quite loose. Two small drawers are included in the open compartment that is hidden by two sliding panels with horizontal slates. Two small keys are included in the bottom of the two drawers.
