The stylish cube design was … more A chic 3-piece Art Deco cube tea set or coffee service manufactured in Staffordshire, England. The stylish cube design was invented by Robert Crawford Johnson in 1917 and in production by 1920 for use on the luxurious Cunard ocean liners. The spare, modernist design combined tabletop stability with ease of use in the event of a choppy transatlantic voyage

This set was likely made in the 1940s - 1950s and in very good condition, free from chips or cracks. The set consists of a lidded teapot, a milk jug, and sugar bowl in an off-white ivory china with a thin gilt banding around the upper rims. The teapot measures 4 in. x 4.25 in. x 4 in.; the milk jug 3 in. x 2 in x 2 in.; the sugar bowl 1.5 in. x 2 in. x 2 in. Although the set matches perfectly, it was assembled. The teapot and milk jug are marked Burleigh / Staffordshire / England on the bases while the sugar bowl bears the mark of Crown Devon / S. Fielding & Co Ltd / Staffordshire / England. less
