Offered is a rare mid 20th Century Cathrineholm Norway enamel bowl. While their patterned colored stainless steel wares with lotus design are instantly recognizable, they also produced vibrant colored enamel on stainless steel, known as their Galloping Gourmet line in conjunction with Chef Graham Kerr, and modernist decorative bowls with porcelain enamel found sometimes under Cathrineholm Holland or Cathrineholm Cathedral Collection. Designed by Grete Prytz Kittelsen and Arne Korsmo, this piece has the older version of the stamp underneath and is marked 'Cathrineholm MADE IN NORWAY STAINLESS STEEL'
While they are food-safe and intended for use, we suggest using only for dry foods or as centerpiece decorative bowl. Please hand wash and dry immediately.
Measures 9.5" diameter, 4" tall
The mirror finish stainless steel non patterned bowls premiered at the Grand Prix X Triennale in Milan, 1956 and Gold Medal XI Triennale in Milan, 1957. They were produced for the public as of 1958. Grete Prytz Kittelsen (1917–2010) is regarded as "the queen of Scandinavian design." Her sphere of influence in the history of decorative art and design stretches from the Scandinavian Design period, 1945–65, to today. Collectors can take their pick between the solid and patterned enamelware that she created for Cathrineholm. And that was only a portion of her career as a prolific designer in the Scandinavian modern movement. less
