This Marc Chagall rare vintage 1967 " Le Profil Bleu " Mourlot fine art lithograph print custom framed Mid Century Modern French exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print poster is published by The Fondation Maeght Sant Paul. Alpes-Maritimes. France, printed in 1967 in France in an unnumbered limited edition of 2000 by Mourlot Imp. Paris, on the occasion of the " Chagall Peintures 1947 - 1967 " exhibition. The major retrospective exhibit highlighting two decades of Chagall's prolific career and his remarkable contributions to Modern Art. It features an artwork image created by Chagall titled " Le Profil Bleu " ( The Blue Profile ).
Marc Chagall ( 1887 - 1985 ) the French Russian born Jewish Expressionist artist is known for both his sense of color and fluid aesthetic. His early Modernist artworks explore concepts and themes of spirituality, angelic influences, and the Jewish cultural life human experience. Chagall is commonly regarded as the quintessential preeminent Jewish artist of The 20th Century. His mastery of the expressive language of color, and creations in nearly every medium and form of art won him recognition as a leading figure in world Modern Art. Artworks by Chagall are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by The Mourlot Family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was to be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right.
This fine art lithograph poster is one of the coveted and desirable of the collaboration and long lasting partnership between the artist Chagall and Atelier Mourlot who together would create many important art posters.
Beginning in the1930's Fernand Mourlot invited the major master artists of the time into the lithography studio to learn the medium of printing together. Encouraging the artists to work directly on the lithography plates to create original prints and posters in limited editions. The results of this artistic collaboration between master artists and Mourlot became internationally known for their originality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship.
The Fondation Maeght is a museum of Modern Art located on a hill overlooking Saint-Paul De Vence in the southeast of France. It was established in 1964 by Aime and Marguerite Maeght, a visionary couple who were publishers and art dealers representing some of the most influential artists of the era.
It houses paintings, sculptures, collages, and ceramics and all forms of Modern Art. The collection includes works by many 20th Century Modern Masters including Jean Arp, Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Alberto Giacometti, Wassily Kandinsky, Ellsworth Kelly, Fernand Leger, and Joan Miro among others. The Fondation Maeght has become France's most important art foundation and is among the world's leading cultural institutions.
The rare out of print framed lithograph print fine art poster measures 23 3/4" W X 35 1/4" H X 1 1/4" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern matte eggshell finish black wood museum box style frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent condition.
