Elegant mid-century John Widdecomb extendable drop leaf table that converts from a side piece or hall table into an 86" long oval dining table with the addition of four 13 1/2" leaves. Perfect for extra table seating during the holidays or for hosting a crowd anytime, yet fits almost anywhere when leaves are down. You won't regret owning this beautiful and flexible, usable piece! Lustrous, warm light wood (looks like walnut veneer), elegant shape and six square tapered legs. When closed, the table can be secured with two metal clasps. The table can be extended by one or more of the four leaves for varying table sizes. The four leaves come in a custom wood crate, as shown, which keeps them free of scratches, and can be stored vertically or horizontally. The listing also includes a six custom made table pads that can be adjusted for different extensions. The pads are 3/8" thick with felt on the table side and wipeable fabric on the outside. The label for John Widdecomb Co., Makers of Fine Furniture, Grand Rapids, is found on the mechanism for extending the table, along with the number 8 and the numbers 0496 and 734 . Likely from the early 1950s. Seats up to 10 or more.
Measures 20 1/2"" w x 38" d x 29 1/4" h when used as a drop leaf table; 31 3/4" w x 38" d x 29 1/4" h when drop leaves are raised and extends to almost 86"" long with the addition of all four leaves.
