This elegantly designed wooden chair features a frame crafted from walnut, inspired by earlier Renaissance period prototypes. During the 19th century, this seating style was dubbed the ‘Savonarola,’ named after the Dominican Friar, Girolamo Savonarola, whose writings and preaching experienced a renewal in interest as European and American populations approached the turn-of-the-century.

This stool features handsomely turned arms surmounted by carved grotesques. A tie-on handmade antique silk velvet embroidered seat cushion with tassels accompanies the stool. The chair is supported by a curule base with carved paw feet.
