Stools and small chairs, for me, have always been somewhat of an accessory piece around our home; you can never have too many. A good one fits into any space! Small or large, in and out of doors, you can move it around from room-to-room, space-to-space, to meet the need of the moment, whether it been seating or décor. This handsome Jacobean-style fiddleback English oak side chair, with baluster bulb-turned legs and bun feet has an H-shaped stretcher at the legs which is a reinforcing element to provide stability and strength. Well-made and structurally sound mortise and tenon frame. The top rail has some added elements of beauty that includes a hand carved grape cluster with full leaves, in the center and beneath it, an elegant carved triangular geometric pattern. The drop-in seat (meaning it is not secured with any hardware) can be popped off to recover if desired but it was recently re-covered with a fabulous smooth soft hand napped finish faux suede polyester upholstery blend fabric with an embroidered whimsical floral and foliate vine motif. The fabric is heavyweight, durable and stain resistant (as seen in the photos) in a russet hue with ruby and ivory flowers and sage green leaves. This handsome chair measures 38” x 18” x 19” H/W/D; seat 18” x 15” W/D; back 14¼” x 21½” W/H; seat-to-floor height 17½”; weight approximately 20 lbs. In excellent structural condition with age-appropriate wear. Since wood is an organic material, it shrinks across the grain with age so you will find there is an age-appropriate tension crack on the lower part of the splat (see photo 4) that does not affect its beauty of structural integrity. Handcrafted in England sometime in the early 1900s; maker unknown.
This handsome chair offers a refined yet casual look-and-feel that will look fabulous in a small entryway, bedroom or reading nook and will most certainly complement any décor or furniture style you may have in your home.
