This Helen Frankenthaler rare vintage 1989 Abstract Expressionist lithograph print custom framed large exhibition poster " Mountains and Sea " 1952, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The exhibition poster print is published by Graphique De France, printed in France in 1989 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the " Selections for The Tenth Anniversary of The East Building " exhibition at The National Gallery of Art, Washington. It features an artwork image originally created by Frankenthaler in 1952 titled " Mountains and Sea ", collection of the artist, copyright 1989 Helen Frankenthaler.
Helen Frankenthaler ( 1928 - 2011 ) is an American Abstract Expressionist painter of a liberal Jewish background, and is a major contributor to the history of Postwar Modernist Painting. She exhibited her work for over six decades, spanning several generations of Abstract painters while continuing to produce vital and ever changing new art works.
Her work has been the subject of several retrospective exhibitions including The Museum of Modern Art New York, The Whitney Museum, The Jewish Museum, and The Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She has been exhibited worldwide since the 1950's, and was awarded The National Medal of The Arts in 2001. Her artworks are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
In 1952, at the age of 23, Frankenthaler created her legendary painting " Mountains and Sea ". comprised of translucent washes of thinned-down pigment embedded in unprimed canvas, this large-scale painting was the first in which she used her soak-stained technique. The result evokes a sense of openness and atmospheric space without relying on traditional illusionism. The modern masterpiece artwork was a groundbreaking achievement and beautiful luminous work of art.
The rare out of print framed Abstract Expressionist large format exhibition poster print measures 40 3/8" W X 33 1/4" H X 1 1/2" D.
It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern bleached white oak wood satin eggshell finish museum box style frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, very light signs of handling and very light minor surface wear in the lower bottom margin text area.
