Portrait of a woman is an original artwork realized by Gianpaolo Berto in the 1980s. Engraved metal plate. Gianpaolo Berto : A native of Adria, an eclectic and multifaceted artist, in 1956 at the age of sixteen, struck by his precocious creativity, Carlo Levi, once again visiting the flooded Polesine, took him with him to Rome and introduced him to the school of De Chirico first and Guttuso later. He was trained in the post-war artistic environment of Adria, in which a new cultural climate was emerging with the figures of Scarpari, Reali, Rizzi, Palmieri, Gioli. Then in Rovigo, where he attended the studio of Prudenziato and Breseghello, whilehe became friends with Gabbris Ferrari. The encounter with the masters Zancanaro and Levi, who contributed to the launch of this eclectic artist on the Italian scene, was dazzling. He was also among the small number of those admitted to the studios of DeChirico, Guttuso and Picasso. For decades professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. As Roberta reali wrote in a publication: despite having been among the very few admitted to the studio of De Chirico (but also of Guttuso and Picasso), and havingexhibited in prestigious galleries and museums, Berto has always exempt himself from appearing in the windows of the large art market, preferring contact, in an anti-elitist key, with the most genuine circles of the public. The artist, who taught the engravingtechnique at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome until his retirement, made his debut in 1956, at the age of only fifteen, with his first solo exhibition held in Livio Rizzi's "Piccola Galleria del Polesine" in Rovigo, with paintings of dramatic realism. A serious loss for culture, not just Polesine. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
