Pair of Italian "Mitzi" sculptural lounge chairs attributed to Ezio Long, circa 1950's, newly re-upholstered in full grain leather in golden yellow color.
Ezio Longhi designed many sculptural chairs as his "Mitzi" chairs featuring open curved arms and brass railhead details. The featured mahogany wood is elegant, timeless, natural, and strong while offering plenty of durability and in this case, defining the curves of the armrests and its back beautifully. The gently bent back, and the widening armrests are all in service of the ergonomic design, which was of utmost importance to Longhi. Every single line is well-thought-out, and the joinery is seamless.
The wood was polished but kept original therefore it presents minor sign of age due to use and wear and according with its time adding more character to the chairs; furthermore, it guarantees authenticity and a serves as a unique identity label to this pair of lounge chairs.
The Lombardian designer Enzio Long was a trained cabinetmaker and architect, and the son of a woodcarver. This lounge chair embodies the classical elegance of Italian mid-century furniture, and the artistry and craftsmanship of Ezio Longhi, who was the founder of the Elam (acronym for Ezio Longhi Arredamenti Moderni) furniture brand.
Enzio Longhi’s book, ‘The Diary of a Carpenter’, ends with a quote from Giorgio Bocca: “Until yesterday I believed that making furniture in Brianza was a matter of glue, of wood, of paints, of money, but then I met the Busnelli's, the Longhi's, the Cassina's, and now I think I know it's something else entirely”. less
