A bright colorful Matelasse Egyptian coverlet or throw. This piece has an interesting story. In the 1960s, an Oklahoma man who was an oil and gas engineer for Phillips Petroleum was transferred to Egypt just before the oil boom. As an expat, he traveled with his family extensively throughout the Middle East as well as many other countries. His wife became an avid textile collector and came across this beautiful piece during one of her shopping trips to one of the local souqs. It is made of two separate fabrics which are hand-dyed. One side is a hand-blocked yellow floral medallion print, and the other is a bright red floral print on a bright blue background. The blue side is framed around the edges with the yellow fabric. The entire throw is quilted throughout. This would be lovely for a sofa cover, or as a bed coverlet at the base of a bed. (It's perfect for a twin!) It would also be great to use as a table cover.
