This Pablo Picasso rare vintage 1967 Mid Century Modern Mourlot fine art lithograph print custom framed " Ceramiques " Paris exhibition poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print poster is published by Galerie Lucie Weill Paris, printed in France in 1967 in an unnumbered limited edition of 1000 by Mourlot Imp. Paris, on the occasion of the " Ceramiques : Editions Madoura " exhibition in December 1967 - January 1968.
This lithographic poster is unusual and rare because it is a photo lithographic print of Picasso's ceramic " Polychrome Bird ". In this case, to produce the three dimensional feeling of the ceramic, it was decided to have a photo-litho base and enhance it with some straight lithographic colors added to it. It was produced to advertise an exhibition of ceramics at The Lucie Weill Gallery in 1967 to celebrate Picasso's new creations at The Madoura Studio. Picasso had developed a strong partnership with The Madoura Pottery Workshop in Vallauris, where the whole team became a part of the creative process, just as it was for lithography at Mourlot.
Pablo Picasso ( 1881 - 1973 ) was a Spanish born painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, poet and playwright who spent most of his life in France. He is regarded as one of the most important and influential artists of The Twentieth Century. Exceptionally prolific throughout the course of his long life, Picasso achieved universal renown and immense fortune for his revolutionary artistic accomplishments, and became one of the most well known figures in 20th Century Art.
In 1946 Picasso visited the small coastal town Vallauris France, known for its pottery, where he became enamored with the ceramics being produced by Atelier Madoura, owned by Suzanne and Georges Raime. Invited by the Raimes to produce his own ceramics, this collaboration ushered in one of the most prolific periods of his career spanning more than 20 years. Here he created a breathtaking collection of original ceramic works, becoming one of the most significant parts of his oeuvre, establishing his importance in the development of 20th Century Art Pottery.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by The Mourlot family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was to the the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right.
This fine art lithograph poster is one of the iconic and very desirable of the collaboration and long lasting partnership between the artist Picasso and Atelier Mourlot who together would created many important art posters.
Beginning in the 1930's Fernand Mourlot invited the major artists of the time into the lithography studio to learn the medium of printing together. Encouraging the artists to work directly on the lithography plates to create original prints and posters in limited editions. The results of this artistic collaboration between master artists and Mourlot became internationally known for their originality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship.
