This helmet shaped coal scuttle is a reproduction of those used to haul coal and ashes. That function may be outdated, but the uses for a piece like this are endless.
Still pretty by a fireplace, the bucket can hold kindling, dried flowers, a plant or fresh flowers. The hammered brass makes it pretty to display by itself.
A previous owner ran silicon around the bottom most likely to waterproof it. We don’t know for sure if it is watertight. less
